Mauka of the upper highway

Scattered ohias, growing out of the pahoehoe flow, mauka of the upper highway, Ka'upulehu. This is a relatively new flow, so there is vegetation (fountain grass) only in selected soft parts of the flow (a'a, disturbed areas) Looking Northeast. Hualalai is to the right. The very top of Pu'uwa'awa'a can be seen behind the trees on the right. The tree in front left has a nice form from several angles. Just to the left of the photo, about 20 feet away, is this yellow ohia tree.

Kiholo Bay

Looking north from the 1801 flow. At the other end of Kiholo Bay is the lagoon that is all that is left of a large fishpond destroyed by the 1859 Mauna Loa eruption Posted by Hello

Here's my token non-endangered-tree photo. Our dog, Roxy, patiently waiting for the humans to get tired of putting clothes on her. Posted by Hello
